Middlebury Parks and Recreation

Shepardson Community Center

Middlebury offers recreational programs for children and adults throughout the year. CURRENT PROGRAMS

The town maintains two parks, Ledgewood Memorial Park located on Route 64 and Meadowview Park on Route 188.

Ledgewood features a play-ground, picnic area, soccer field, jogging track, tennis court, basketball court, street hockey court, softball field and the town's Veterans Memorial.

The parking lot at Ledgewood Park has been expanded and restroom facilities are available.

Meadowview Park is now open to the public and a grand-opening ceremony was held in 1999. Meadowview features a fishing pond, ball fields, a paved area for inline skating and direct access to the Greenway.

There is ample parking and Greenway users are encouraged to leave their cars there while using the trails. A playground has been installed and a pavilion is scheduled to be installed at Meadowview.

The Greenway trails have become a very popular feature within the town's land-scape. Although close enough to Route 64 to provide security, the trails do have a wooded atmosphere. One winds along a stream.

The trails may be used for walking, jogging or bike riding.

From late spring through early fall, the town also offers, for a fee, the Middlebury Recreation Area, located on Route 64 at Lake Quassapaug. The MRA features a beach, tennis courts, basketball court, boat launch area, picnic area and bocci court.

Bristol Park on Route 64 is an open area offering picnic tables and hiking.

The Shepardson Community Building features rooms for various activities, including scouting, crafts, aerobics instructions and the like, as well as a dining area and kitchen which can be rented out by organizations when not in use by the town's elderly services department. There is a small playground behind the building.

In addition, there are two town-owned Little League fields, located opposite Lake Quassy Amusement Park.

Programs offered through the recreation department include fitness, crafts, summer playground, organized sports leagues and sponsored trips to special events
