The Greenway trails have become a very popular feature within the town's land-scape. Although close enough to Route 64 to provide security, the trails do have a wooded atmosphere. One winds along a stream.
The trails may be used for walking, jogging or bike riding.
From late spring through early fall, the town also offers, for a fee, the Middlebury Recreation Area, located on Route 64 at Lake Quassapaug. The MRA features a beach, tennis courts, basketball court, boat launch area, picnic area and bocci court.
Bristol Park on Route 64 is an open area offering picnic tables and hiking.
The Shepardson Community Building features rooms for various activities, including scouting, crafts, aerobics instructions and the like, as well as a dining area and kitchen which can be rented out by organizations when not in use by the town's elderly services department. There is a small playground behind the building.

In addition, there are two town-owned Little League fields, located opposite Lake Quassy Amusement Park.Programs offered through the recreation department include fitness, crafts, summer playground, organized sports leagues and sponsored trips to special events
